Thomas's 3rd birthday

Oh, I really blew this one. We had an awesome party this summer for Thomas's 3rd birthday. It was at Golden Gate Park and a bunch of his friends from tumbling class and from Olga's came - but I didn't take a single picture. Egads! I was just so busy being hostess that I didn't even get to run back to the car and grab the camera!

Anyway, fortunately, one of the parents took a few photos and video and gave us a cd with them on it! Yay!

Here are the links to the videos:

I'm going to update the photo section sometime today or tomorrow - so stay tuned!

Daily Snippet and Auction Moms

So, I had pretty much decided to ax the Daily Snippet - I think it makes more sense to keep everything in one place. So, from now until I change my mind again (haha) this will be the spot for all the latest and greatest in the Buckingham/Nolan household.

A while back, Emmett complained about me using "Mom's Journal" to talk about political stuff and news events - he felt that I should keep the blog about Thomas's life and our life as a family, etc. I countered with the idea that the purpose of the blog for me was to have something to give to Thomas - a document of our family's life - someday when he is older and that political and social events and happenings were certainly relevant. But I have come to realize that I can be a bit, umm, let's say voluminous with my thoughts and opinions about political and social events at times and that this really isn't the place for that. Soooooo - what I am finally getting around to explaining is that I'm going to use the Daily Snippet as my own personal journal and write about the "not the Mom" side of Melissa and keep this for our family posts.

Okay. Now with that said I'm going to get on with a few little tidbits. I am (as always) aspiring to write more in this blog. I don't know how many of those that read my blog know that I have been getting steadily more serious about my EBay business. I have my store on EBay which has about 55 items up for sale and I've got another 50 or so things in inventory that I'm planning to list in the next week or so. I've been doing pretty well, at least from the standpoint of buying things and then moving them out the door pretty quickly without losing any money. When it's all said and done, I'm only basically breaking even right now, but since it usually takes several years for most businesses to see a profit I feel pretty good about the idea that I probably be profitable in 2006 and break even for 2005. I've learned a LOT in the last 9 months about what works and what doesn't and I'm still pretty excited about it although I don't think I'm going to get rich this way or even really be able to make a living - but I'm thinking eventually it will be a nice little nest egg for us. Most importantly, I really enjoy doing it and have joined a couple of Auction Moms web sites to connect with other Moms who do this to help out the family income. It's fun. My friend Ulrich called it a hobby that makes money and that's probaby the most apt description at this point.

I hadn't really been aware, though, of how much a part of lives my EBay work has become until this morning. Thomas got out of bed and went over to my desk, plopped himself into my chair and said to me, "I need to check my auctions." I completely cracked up!

Later on, I asked him how our auctions were doing and he said, "We don't have any." And he's right!

On that note, I better run and get some photos taken so I can get some auctions running before he gets up from his nap.

LOve,
Melissa
