A couple new words and a little scare
Well, I didn't get a chance to write much about the trip today. As soon as I was done with the last post, things got busy at work and I had to actually concentrate on my work. Then at about 1, Emmett called and said Olga had called him, Thomas was sick and we needed to pick him up. I pretty much panicked because Olga has never thought that Thomas was so sick that he needed to be picked up early. So I left work and went to get him. It turned out that he had been really lethargic all day, slept most of the day and refused to eat or drink anything (TOTALLY not like him!) and vomiting up what little he did eat. She was really scared because he has never done this before (refusing to eat, that is, and being too sleepy to play with the other kids). When I got there she woke him up and he was like a different baby. He must have needed the rest or something because he was full of energy, running around all over the place. By the time we got home he was totally starved and wolfed down almost a whole box of water crackers and a large bottle of water (with a little bit of juice put in for flavor). We went to the grocery store and the lady at the deli counter gave him some cheese and then he and I split a health muffin. He just couldn't get enough to eat! Poor guy - the flights, the time changes, and then he didn't get a nap yesterday - so he must have just been completely worn out today, or else he caught a bit of a bug on the plane. Either way, I am so totally relieved that he seems okay now. Two weeks ago he fell down the stairs outside the house while he was walking with his father. Emmett caught him before he hit the bottom, but those are granite stairs and he hit his head pretty hard in three different spots before Em caught him, so I was concerned that this lethargy, vomiting and loss of appetite were the result of some kind of delayed cranial bleed. Which is, as it turns out, not just a completely paranoid mother - although unlikely, it really could happen. I talked to Tommy's doctor and he thought that given the dramatic improvement this afternoon that I probably didn't need to worry, but that we should watch him over the weekend and if he starts having symptoms again we should call right away.
So in light of all of this we decided to postpone going to Tahoe until tomorrow morning, but to go on and go since he seems fine. I'm looking forward to the trip. Eric, Heidi and Deb will come with us. It's boat-in camping only, so we'll take the canoe across. The camp site is Emerald Bay. I've been there before and it's gorgeous. Can't wait!
In other news, Tommy had a few new words today. I think I forgot to mention in my earlier post about the word "sky" that he likes so much. He points up and says "sky, sky, sky" over and over again. Anyway, today he started telling Alex, "away!" and pointing his finger. Alex begs really bad when Thomas is eating and sometimes he'll even try to snatch Thomas's food away if no one's looking, so Emmett is always yelling at Alex to "go away" from Thomas. Thomas has now picked up on this and is yelling at Alex in exactly the same tone and pointing his finger the same way. It is really cute, if a little bit sad for Alex to have one more person yelling at him. :-( His other word today was "stop". I kept trying to get him to kiss me while I was strapping him into his car seat and he told me to "stop"! I was really surpriseed, but I have to laugh. Between Alex and I, Thomas is really starting to learn to stand up for himself! :-)
His obsession with Ya-Ya is getting to be a bit much. Everytime someone turns on the TV, Thomas comes up and points to it and says "Ya ya!!" Today I swear he yelled at his dad, "I want Ya Ya!!" I think we're going to have to cut back on the TV watching, both is and ours. I do not like this trend. Yesterday he and I watched a one hour tape of Teletubbies and when it was over he threw a temper tantrum. I was surprised because he usually is okay with it - we go through the whole "Tubby bye bye" part of the tape together and he usually seems to understand that that means it's the end, but lately he just can't seem to get enough of them. Ahhh well. This too shall pass.:-)
Well, better get off to bed. We are getting up in 4 hours to leave.
Love,
Melissa
