Tommy's first joke!
I'm going to keep this short, since this is a rare evening post - I always hate to waste ANY of my family time - I'm so terribly possessive of that time, but I guess that's a good thing. Sometimes we DO learn from our past mistakes, haha.
Anyway, I'll catch up with the rest of last six days or so tomorrow morning (hopefully!) although Thomas has been getting up before 8am lately. This is a bad thing because it definitely shortens my morning time to myself, but it's a good thing because it means that he's not so exhausted on mornings when he has to go to daycare. I have read that it is normal at this age to start sleeping a little bit less. He's now sleeping about 11 - 11.5 hours at night and taking anywhere from 1-3 hours of nap during the day, so he's still on the high side of normal.
Today he made his first joke! He and I were going through the flashcards together. Each one has a letter on one side and a picture on the other side that depicts something that begins with that letter, 'a' on one side and then picture of an apple on the other side, for example. Anyway, we got all the way to the end and the last card was 'z' for 'zebra'. Tommy said 'zebra' and wanted to keep that card. A few minutes later he still had the card in his hand and he said "horsey".
I said, "nooo, zebra."
He said, "horsey."
"Zebra."
"Horsey."
"Thomas, it's a zebra."
"No. Horsey."
Finally, he wore me down. I said, "Fine, Thomas, whatever. You're right. Horsey."
What do you think he said?
Yup, you guessed it. "Zebra," and laughed.
Is this normal? I was so surprised. It's hard to explain, but it was very clear that he knew from the start of the conversation what he was doing. Sometimes that child really freaks me out and I just don't know what to think of it. He's a strange one, that kid. Strange and wonderful.
I'll write more about our day together today and the latest tomorrow. Right now it's off to spend the last hour of the day with my love.
Good night,
Melissa
